Jet Mixer
[mixing-eductor]

intank motionless mixer.

Components

It comprises of two main components

1. Motive Nozzle

2. Diffuser

Working:

  • A fast moving stream of liquid [motive liquid] is injected into a slow moving or stationary liquid [secondary liquid].
  • The motive pressure at the entrance of the nozzle is converted into kinetic energy by allowing the fluid to flow freely through a convergent type nozzle.
  • As the operating fluid exits the Jet Mixer nozzle, it entrains fluid from the tank through the suction chamber.
  • The operating liquid along with entrained liquid then undergoes thorough mixing in the parallel section of the Jet Mixer diffuser.
  • The divergent portion of the diffuser helps in converting the velocity head to pressure head at the discharge end of the Jet mixer.
  • The discharge flow continues the mixing action of the liquid and imparts uniform mixing throughout the tank.

Configuration & Flow Pattern:

An established amount of motive liquid is pumped through a header into one or multiple jet mixers submerged within the tank. Jet Mixers are generally installed at the deepest point in the tank so that they are functional even at fluctuating liquid levels during filling and emptying operation of the tank.
The Number of jet mixers and its orientation is decided based on the tank geometry, transport properties of the fluid to be mixed, Max/Min liquid levels and the turnover rate/mixing time.
Depending on the application , the motive liquid can be recycled from the same tank or can be another liquid drawn from a different source which is to be mixed with the tank contents under consideration.

Flow Patterns Achieveable:

Applications:

Jet Mixers can be used as substitute for Agitators in practically all the cases where the liquids to be mixed are pumpable.
Some typical applications of Jet Mixers are:

  • Mixing / blending,
  • Solid suspension,
  • Electro coating / pretreatment tanks,
  • Lube oil blending,
  • Neutralization tanks,
  • Storage tanks homogenization,
  • Temperature Homogenization , etc.
